St. Petersburg
Downtown used to have something like 7,000 green benches. People sat on them for hours because, before AC, catching the breeze outside was the only way to beat the afternoon. Air conditioning is pretty much what ended that.

We're not from "the Tampa Bay area." We're from here.

The towns we cover — and a little of why we like them
Every one of these places has a history, and a surprising amount of it comes back to the same thing we do: beating the Florida heat. Here's the short version.
Tarpon Springs
Sponge-diving capital of the world, and the town with the most Greek-Americans in the country. The guys in the brass helmets built this place.
Clearwater
The Fort Harrison Hotel opened in 1926. When new owners took over in 1953, one of the first things they did was add air conditioning — about when cool air really came to Cleveland Street.
Dunedin
Scottish to the bone — the name's Gaelic for Edinburgh, and they still throw Florida's biggest Highland Games. Fun one: frozen orange juice concentrate basically got its start right here.
Safety Harbor
The whole town was built around 'healing springs' — five of them, each one supposedly good for a different part of you. Folks traveled here just to feel better. We get it. We're in the feel-better business too.
Palm Harbor
Used to be called Sutherland. Nearby Wall Springs sold itself as a Fountain of Youth — water a steady 74 degrees all year round. A hundred years later, 74 is still a pretty solid setpoint.
Oldsmar
Yep — founded in 1916 by Ransom Olds, the Oldsmobile guy. His banana crop froze out in a cold snap, so he hired a citrus expert to fight it. Even a car tycoon couldn't beat Florida weather.
Ozona
Two doctors renamed it after 'ozone' — pure air — to sell the clean Gulf breeze. A little fishing village basically named after fresh air.
